Application Of Adhesive To Glue The Interlocking Tiles

Generally, the interlocking tiles can be loose laid.  However, there are some circumstances that may require gluing them down due to uneven expansion and contraction and movement of the tiles.

  • Exposure of interlocking tiles to direct sunlight – Please be advised that it is advisable to apply adhesive to areas where the interlocking tiles are exposed to direct sunlight, as the tiles will expand at a greater rate than those that are not subject to direct sunlight. This may cause the lift in the tiles on area of direct sunlight.
  • Heavy vehicles/trucks and machinery/Tight Turning Circles – It is advisable for you to lay a few tiles in a small area to test whether or not certain vehicles and trucks will cause a problems, especially when turning in tight circles/areas. In particular it is important to carry out a test where heavy vehicles/trucks have small wheels or electric trucks where the location of the battery is over the main drive wheel. The test will allow you to determine the thickness of tile required in your given environment.
  • Catalytic Converters/ External Heat Sources – Please be advised that if your business uses furnaces, catalytic converters and ovens, they will cause heat which will make the floor very hot.  In turn this will cause the tiles to expand.  In order to avoid this expansion, it is advisable that adhesive is applied to glue the tiles on to the subfloor. Please contact us to discuss your particular environment for further details.

Discoloration & Staining Of Interlocking Tiles

  • The environment you will be installing the interlocking tiles is very important, as you need to consider possible staining and discolours that may be caused by machinery, direct sunlight and harsh chemicals.
  • Staining – Certain rubber tyres and wheels can cause staining. This is caused by a chemical reaction which occurs between the anti-oxidant used in some rubber types and the plasticiser used in vinyl. Therefore, you may make particular colour choices to assist is making these stains noticeable, such as purchasing dark grey and/or black colour interlocking tiles. If you are concerned about staining caused from tyres, wheels, hair dyes and other harsh chemicals you may consider purchasing our anti-colour/anti stain two part sealer. Kindly contact us for further information.
  • UV Stability – The interlocking tiles are not suitable for outdoor use and the colours are not UV stable.
  • Colour differences due to batch differences – We are not able to guarantee the same colour on subsequent orders, as they may come from different production batches.  Therefore, kindly note shade variation on subsequent orders.
